Who or What makes us Happy?

Living with an alcoholic can certainly have its moments and many of those moments are funny and made us laugh. We had a glimpse of how our life could be and yearned for happiness. Don’t we all want to be happy? Sadly we feel our life has been defined by the alcoholic and our happiness rests on their shoulders. Moving forward and finding happiness is possible but you have to make it happen. It’s not some magical feeling that finds its way to your life. However, when you experience it, it truly is magical.

As painful as it sounds, you are the one who defines happiness and it is not dictated by another person. Recognising that fact and being self-aware is the best starting point to finding happiness. It really starts with you. You need to get to know yourself, what you’re looking for, what you like, what you don’t like and what it is that makes you happy?

Being happy shouldn’t be a chore or something that is difficult to find because you have it in your heart, you just have to search for it. Remember those fun times when you laughed so hard you cried or embarrassingly almost wet yourself. Capture those memories, talk with friends and be in touch with the person you once were before your life changed so dramatically. You are in a different and more positive phase of your life so embrace that step forward and have some fun in the process.
